From its humble beginning, RIE has grown into an industry leader in North America as well as having a presence in overseas markets. RIE has provided the impetus and expertise to large companies who have seen the need to move from traditional zinc plating or galvanizing to thin film protective coatings.
Over the years, we have helped companies in a wide range of industries like agricultural equipment, military, computer and electronics, construction, medical, recreational vehicles, aerospace, and other improve the performance of their products through the use of coatings.
Founder of RIE, Randy Hanson, began his career in the coating business in the US Air Force corrosion control division. He later worked in the aerospace industry where he gained knowledge of corrosion resistant and other high tech coatings.
In 1987, Mr. Hanson founded RIE by initially servicing military contracts. The company quickly evolved as RIE began helping large, non-automotive companies implement the use of coatings to greatly enhance the products they are manufacturing.
Recreational and Industrial Engineering was founded in Eden Valley, MN at the old Ford Dealership in town, circa1919. The first products included IBM hard drive screws, suspension parts, and tungsten counterweights.
