Anodizing is an electrolytic passivation process used to create a natural oxide layer for decorative, durable, corrosion resistant finishes for nonferrous metals. ALUMINUM is the only metal that is anodized.
Standard anodizing, also known as Type II, is commonly used to enhance the appearance and strength of aluminum parts. Since we use a sulfuric acid electrolyte, the coating has a porous nature to allow dye absorption in many colors. With sealing, the layer improves wear resistance and offers corrosion protection in many applications.
Hard anodizing creates a thick, hard oxide layer on aluminum components. In addition to enhancing resistance to wear and corrosion, Type III is known to optimize dielectric strength. Lubricants, including fluorocarbons such as Teflon, can be impregnated into the surface to increase the lubricity without affecting the hardness.
Phosphoric anodizing offers an ideal pretreatment for adhesive bonding. Our metal anodizing process involves immersing components in a phosphoric acid solution and passing an electrical current through it to create a chemical reaction. A porous oxide layer develops on the surface to create a better grip for stronger, more durable bonds.
