Our Expertise

Fastener Coating Services

The right coating, plating or surface treatment for your fasteners can prevent field failures and enhance assembly-line efficiency. It can also extend the life of your components, even in harsh environments that promote corrosion and degradation.

At RIE Coatings, we invest in engineering and technical services to bring you coatings, surface treatments, finishes and plating designed to protect every component, even in the most extreme conditions.

Screw Coatings

Coatings for screws need to keep the drive recess clean and avoid excessive coating in the thread pitch to ensure the quality performance of every component. Our precision equipment ensures application precision to reduce or eliminate thread fill and maintain driveability. Our coatings protect your screws from moisture, corrosion, chemicals and seizing.

Bolt Coatings

For structural bolts engineered to handle massive tensile loads, the choice of coating and application method dictates whether a joint holds or catastrophically fails. RIE Coatings specializes in non-electrolytic zinc flake coatings and others designed specifically to mitigate the hidden killer of high-strength steel — hydrogen embrittlement.

Nut Coatings

Internal threads require a uniform, thin coating that allows each bolt to fit. Quality coatings for nuts also need to be uniform to allow the bolt to fit while offering dry film lubrication to prevent seizing.

Our Advanced Fasteners Coatings

Our fastener coatings include:

  • Zinc coatings: Zinc flake is an industry standard for corrosion resistance with minimal hydrogen embrittlement risk.
  • Magni® coatings: RIE is a certified applicator of Magni, which is a strong option for fasteners in the automotive and heavy industry sectors requiring chrome-free and UV-stable duplex coating for fasteners.
  • High corrosion resistance (HCR) solutions: In oceanic exposure areas, marine areas, hot climates and on salty roads in Minnesota winters, rust-proof bolts require HCR coatings, which offer a dual barrier for high-moisture, ground contact and other challenging conditions.
INDUSTRIES of Expertise

The RIE Difference

Our core processes involve dip spin for bulk processing and hand spray for complex geometries and unique applications where part size or aesthetic appeal affects coating application. Up to 50% of smaller components can nest together after bulk processing, but we can deliver zero part rejection to ensure no lost product.

Our AS9100D certification and 99.6% on-time delivery rate ensure your fasteners arrive from our facility ready for your application. All the coatings we apply are also REACH and RoHS compliant, helping you adhere to your industry’s environmental regulations, down to every nut and bolt you use.

All our coatings are completed in-house using state-of-the-art technology. When you want coatings for nuts and bolts as well as other fasteners, contact an engineer on our team to discuss your project.
